In 2012, Naparima Girls’ High School (NGHS) celebrated 100 years of existence. As Chairman of the Committee that organised those celebrations, Dr. Jennifer Yamin-Ali felt that after 100 years, something meaningful should be done to ensure that the true philosophical legacy of the school would be perpetuated.
The motto of the school is Non Nobis Solum Sed Omnibus (Latin for not for ourselves only, but for all). That motto translates into service to others in keeping with the Presbyterian ethic on which the school was founded. With a small group of past students whom she recruited, this Foundation was born. Although the Foundation liaises very closely with the school itself, it is a separate entity from the school and not a part of the Alumnae Association. However, we do not engage in any activity without the school’s approval.
Over the years, the Foundation has actively engaged the NGHS school community in a wide range of service projects. These initiatives have not only made a meaningful impact beyond the school gates, but have also fostered a strong culture of compassion, responsibility, and civic engagement among students.
Through the establishment of the NGHS Non Nobis Club which is supported by patron teachers of the school, students are empowered to take the lead in identifying needs, planning initiatives, and executing their own service projects. These include visits to the elderly, outreach to children’s homes, beach clean-ups, and donations to vulnerable members of the community, among many other acts of service.

As the Foundation has grown, so too has our visual identity. As part of our ongoing evolution, we introduced a personalized emblem that reflects both our distinct mission and our enduring connection to our alma mater.
This emblem strengthens our presence across all outreach and communications, creating immediate recognition while honouring the legacy from which we emerged. Inspired by our tagline, ‘Shine Your Light for Others,‘ the design incorporates an iconic legacy symbol of the school — a meaningful reminder that our work today is grounded in the values that shaped us.
